We also republished an excellent interview from Ken Adams, Founder and President of Adams Contracts Consulting LLC. He talked to ChinaLawBlog’s Steve Dickinson about English-language contracts in China. Long story short: just draft them in Chinese.
Games: an Exciting, Fast-Growing Niche
Slator also published four original features on translation and localization in the game industry, which we discovered was quite lucrative for the right language service providers.

Slator conducted exclusive interviews with Shigenobu Kawata, President of ExeTrust, and Will Chan, CEO of HeterMedia.
They talked to us about financial translation in Japan and China. ExeTrust is a language services provider focusing on investment banking and asset management, while HeterMedia started out as a financial printer that still offers financial translation.
Kawata told us about long hours of work and exclusive pricing details within the Japanese financial translation industry. He also said government regulations are boosting demand for Japanese to English translations. Chan shared similar stories of hectic translation work courtesy of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He also shared pricing details for the Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong financial translation markets.
Multilingual SEO, Literary Translation, and Machine Translation
Slator also spoke to Motoko Hunt, President of AJPR, a Japanese search engine optimization firm. Hunt gave us a clearer picture of multilingual SEO, especially in Japan. She talked about demand and shared usual challenges, painting what the SEO scene is like in Japan and explaining its role in global marketing.
From the less technical and more creative side of the fence, Slator also turned the spotlight on literary translation. With the EU regaining interest in foreign, translated work and Amazon investing $10 million into literary translations, it was hard not to notice the resurgence in interest.
Finally, Slator also published a short feature on machine translation — more specifically, how machine translation is used by ecommerce companies like Etsy. Slator naturally covers various aspects of machine translation in other categories, but this piece briefly explored applications in a specific niche.
