Dorothee Orf, CEO of Intertext, co-founded the Barcelona-headquartered company in 1988. The LSP reportedly serves more than 500 clients, located in the DACH region (49%), Spain (42%), and other European countries (4%), plus India and China (5%).
Orf and the entire Intertext team will stay on after the acquisition. Translate. One is still weighing whether to maintain Intertext’s brand or integrate it into Translate.One.
Slator 2023 Language Industry M&A and Funding Report
This 61-page report provides an in-depth analysis of mergers, acquisitions, and funding in the language services industry in 2023.
Translate. One President Peter Smith told Slator, “We have known each other for about two years. Early on, we discovered that our companies align closely in our customer service philosophies and our innovative use of technology.”
Smith described the timing for this acquisition as ideal “due to our ongoing expansion of AI-enabled solutions.” Translate. One uses both “proprietary and third-party products, with some overlap with Intertext’s systems,” he added.
Similarly, the companies have some offerings in common. Intertext’s translation services include sworn institutional translation; advertising copy; audiovisual translation; and scientific, medical, and technical translation.
“We have also expanded our client base across various industries, including life sciences, eLearning, and tech,” Smith said. “Additionally, as a trend, besides AI and machine translation, we see an increased demand for multimedia localization and on-demand video and phone interpretation services to support global communications.”
