Straker Makes Major Leadership Change

Straker Limited’s Founder Grant Straker’s 26-year tenure as Chief Executive Officer is coming to an end. The company announced on March 4, 2026, his transition to a non-executive post as director on the ASX-listed company’s Board, along with the adoption of a dual-leadership model with the appointment of David Sowerby and Indiver Nagpal as Co-CEOs.

In his new capacity, the ex-CEO will chair the company’s new AI and Technology Board Committee, a group tasked with guiding Straker’s technical plans and overall AI strategy.

According to the press release, the appointment of Sowerby and Nagpal divides executive responsibilities into two pillars at Straker: commercial operations and technical innovation.

Sowerby has been with Straker since 2008 and is the company’s former Chief Revenue Officer. His new role will focus on global commercial operations and market expansion. He holds an MBA from Trinity College Dublin and previously founded Sportsys Pty Ltd.

Nagpal has served at Straker for almost 18 years, holding multiple roles that include Chief Technology Officer and later Chief Innovation Officer/Chief Platform Officer, focusing on AI and platform technology. He will lead the company’s technical vision and language AI product suite.

Journeying into AI-First Ops and Scale

Straker’s stock rebounded from all-time lows in November 2025 after the company secured a renewed, USD 16.1m agreement with IBM for its AI-driven Slack translation app. The agreement represented a step toward what the company said was a transformation of its distribution model into embedded technology.

At the time of writing, Straker’s announcement about its leadership change includes an express commitment to “AI-first growth,” and the soon-to-be ex-CEO is quoted saying that they had “identified the AI shift five years ago and rebuilt the company to meet it.”

About the Co-CEOs, he said that “Having worked with David and Indy for nearly two decades, I know they are the right team to lead this next phase.”

The company also rebranded in 2023 and adopted the website domain Straker.ai to reflect its focus on AI-driven language technology, while the formal legal name on the ASX remains Straker Limited.
