Since 2018, the Slator Language Industry Jobs Index (LIJI) has been a useful data source to track employment and hiring trends in the global language industry.
Since its creation, the LIJI has generated over 50 monthly index figures and referenced hundreds of underlying data points from multiple sources. The LIJI navigated various peaks and troughs (notably during 2020) during its lifespan to climb more than 84 points in the period between July 2018 and December 2022.
Unfortunately, in the transition between 2022 and 2023, a number of the sources that Slator used as indicators changed the type and level of information available. This has made it impossible to produce the LIJI in the same meaningful way we have done for more than four years. Rather than proceed with a less data-rich index going forward, we have regretfully decided to retire the monthly LIJI.
