Smith’s extensive experience in the healthcare sector dovetails with CQ’s work. In addition to healthcare and health insurance, CQ specializes in life sciences, medical devices, government health agencies, and related marketing and advertising, with language professionals and subject matter experts for more than 300 languages.
According to CQ’s website, longtime clients include Abbott, Merck, AbbVie, MetLife, and Humana.
In Smith’s most recent role, as CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Virginia, the organization became the fastest-growing managed care provider in the state.
That point in particular may have appealed to CQ, which, in 2024, was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for the 11th consecutive year.
Miranda told Slator that she had “hand-selected Tameeka as the right leader to scale CQ’s mission and legacy,” especially through initiatives furthering CQ’s impact on health equity and communication access.
While Smith plans to deepen her understanding of the language industry, CQ’s work in healthcare, culture, and communications are “domains where Tameeka has spent her entire career,” Miranda added.
“This role is not a departure from my path—it’s an evolution of it,” Smith told Slator. “I see translation and accessibility as essential infrastructure for equity and inclusion.”
In her first 12 months as CEO, Smith will also prioritize deepening partnerships with enterprise clients across sectors; strengthening operations and delivery infrastructure; and “advancing AI and tech innovation with an essential human-in-the-loop approach.”
