The unit supports hearings, meetings, and field activities, and is responsible for maintaining terminology consistency and ensuring the availability of qualified interpreters and translators for situation languages — languages relevant to ICC investigations and proceedings.
Responsibilities include recruitment and testing of language professionals, monitoring service quality, and managing performance across internal and external teams. The successful candidate will also develop procedures, training initiatives, and operational guidelines.
The position further involves coordination with other units within the Language Services Section, engagement with stakeholders across the Court, and advising senior management on language-related matters. Budget planning, monitoring, and reporting to senior management are also part of the role.
The ICC operates across multiple linguistic environments linked to ongoing investigations and cases. These situation languages often require tailored solutions, including the use of freelance translators and field interpreters and the development of dedicated terminology resources.
Candidates are expected to have at least seven years of progressively responsible managerial experience in language services or a related field, including a minimum of five years in an international organization or jurisdiction. An advanced degree in translation, languages, law, or a related field is required.
Fluency in English and French is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Court’s work is considered an asset. The role also requires familiarity with translation and interpretation standards, legal concepts, and the use of language technologies.
The position is offered as a fixed-term appointment with a minimum net annual salary of EUR 109,102. For initial appointments, the Court offers a two-year contract with the possibility of extension, subject to a six-month probationary period.
The deadline for applications is April 27, 2026.
