European Parliament Seeks Proofreaders Across 12 Languages

The European Parliament has launched a call for expressions of interest for proofreaders/language editors across 12 EU languages, to work within its Directorate-General for Translation in Luxembourg.

The call aims to establish a pool of candidates for recruitment as temporary agents (AST 3) and contract staff (FG III).

The positions cover Bulgarian, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Irish, Lithuanian, Maltese, Romanian, and Swedish.

According to the job description, selected candidates will proofread texts for spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, typography, formatting, and technical compliance. They will also check linguistic and terminological consistency in translated texts and ensure compliance with stylistic conventions and rules.

The role includes pre- and post-processing documents using translation tools and office software, incorporating reference texts, and supporting translators and terminologists through tasks such as terminology research and database updates.

Additional responsibilities may include preparing draft translations of short, non-legislative texts, transcribing audio and video files, checking AI-translated, transcribed, and multimedia content, and carrying out other language-related tasks, including content moderation. The role may also involve supporting internal training activities and helping onboard new colleagues.

Applicants must be citizens of an EU Member State and meet specific education or professional experience requirements, depending on the grade. For AST 3 specifically, candidates must have post-secondary education or a secondary education diploma with at least three years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent training.

Applications must be submitted via the Apply4EP platform by May 30, 2026 (17:00 Brussels/Luxembourg time). A guide for candidates is available on the application website.
